B.S. Manjunath has been at the forefront of innovation in multimedia content representation, image search and retrieval, and signal processing techniques for steganography and cybersecurity for over three decades. His pioneering contributions include critical involvement in establishing international standards such as ISO/MPEG-7, significantly advancing multimedia data management and retrieval methodologies. Recognized widely for his groundbreaking work on image texture and segmentation, Manjunath developed influential visual descriptors that remain central to image-based analysis across diverse fields. Additionally, his transformative approach of converting computer binaries into multidimensional signals revolutionized malware analysis, leading to new cybersecurity paradigms adopted by industry and defense agencies. Collectively, these seminal contributions have profoundly impacted academia, industry standards, and practical applications globally. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, ACM, AIMBE (American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering), and the NAI (National Academy of Inventors). He received the IEEE Computer Society 2020 Edward J. McCluskey Technical Achievement Award, βfor contributions to image search, retrieval, and bio-image informatics.β
