B. S. Manjunath and Shivkumar Chandrasekaran
Co-founders of Mayachitra, Inc.
Mayachitra has rapidly grown into a leader in image informatics and now employs 5 full-time engineers, most of them Ph.D.s with total more than 50 years of experience in image processing, computer vision, machine learning, scientific computing, and multimedia databases.
B. S. Manjunath, Ph.D.
CEO & Co-founder
Dr. Manjunath co-founded Mayachitra (with Dr. Chandrasekaran). He has over 15 years of experience in developing robust image informatics solutions, including image registration, content based search and retrieval, image and video databases, steganography, and image segmentation. He is also a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he directs research in the Vision Research Laboratory and the Center for Bio-Image Informatics. He has authored/co-authored over 150 peer reviewed papers in leading journals and conferences, and is a co-inventor on 15 US patents. He was involved with the MPEG-7 standardization and the lead editor of the book on MPEG-7 published by Wiley International.
Shivkumar Chandrasekaran, Ph.D.
CTO & Co-founder
Dr. Chandrasekaran is the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Mayachitra Inc. and a Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of California at Santa Barbara. He is responsible for overall software systems design and implementation. At Mayachitra his research has been primarily concentrated on developing a scalable multimedia database that can support content based search on terabytes of data, primarily for aerial and satellite imagery and bio-medical images.
Manjula Manjunath
Business Manager
Manjula is currently the Business Manager at Mayachitra. She has a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from UCSB. She has worked as Administration Engineer at SGS, India.
Kenneth M. Sullivan, Ph.D.
Research Staff Member
Dr. Sullivan completed his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Vision Research Lab at UCSB. His thesis focused on steganography/steganalysis, and investigated both a rigorous approach to determining fundamental limits of data hiding as well as practical schemes for detection, with results published in several peer-reviewed international conferences and journals. Since joining Mayachitra in 2005 he has worked on computer vision problems in the context of large-scale image and video databases, and has been responsible for multiple projects including the development of end-to-end systems for image/video search and recognition.
Milind Mistry
Senior Software Engineer
Mr. Mistry holds Bachelors Degree in Electronics Engineering from SVNIT, India and is Masters candidate at San Diego State University majoring Computer Science. Before joining Mayachitra he has been working with Convera for 3 years developing document management system and enterprise search engine. He has strong background in software engineering and client-server systems.
Jiyun Byun, Ph.D.
Research Staff Member
Dr. Byun received her Ph.D in Electrical and Computer engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2007). She worked on several problems concerning image analysis and pattern recognition of biomolecular/microscopy images in the Center for Bio-Image Informatics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research interests focus on image analysis, pattern recognition, and data mining in bio-molecular images.
Jayanth Nayak, Ph.D.
Research Staff Member
Dr. Nayak completed his Ph.D. dissertation titled "Problems in compression, transmission and storage of correlated sources", from the ECE department at University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2005. During his Ph.D., his research was on the information theoretic analysis of distributed source coding scenarios. He received a dissertation fellowship from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, UCSB, in 2005. As a postdoctoral researcher at INRIA, France and at the University of California, Riverside, he has worked on several problems in video processing. In particular, he has designed algorithms for multi-target tracking by combining audio and video data in a sensor network. He has also designed algorithms for distributed compression of data from multiple cameras. His research has resulted in numerous publications in international journals and conferences. His research interests include pattern recognition, signal and video processing and information theory.
Jelena Tešić, Ph.D.
Research Staff Member
Jelena Tešić joined Mayachitra in early 2009. Her main focus is on developing scalable multimedia indexing, search and retrieval systems for video repositories. Prior to that, she spent 5 years at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, Hawthorne, NY, Intelligent Information Analysis Group. Jelena received the Dipl. Ing. degree from the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, Serbia, in 1998, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1999 and 2004, respectively.
Francesco Zuliani, M.S.
Software Engineer
Mr. Zuliani received his Master Degree in Computer Science with emphasis in Software Engineering from the University of Udine, Italy in 2011. He has a strong background in User Interface Design and HCI usability concepts both on mobile and desktop systems. His research focused on developing mobile technologies for supporting First Responder teams, as well as on using Audio Storytelling technologies in combination with iOS devices to promote and support physical exercise. He also performed system administration tasks for a variety of academic institutions.
