What is Mayachitra imago and who uses it?

Mayachitra imago is an advanced desktop image management package that enables scientists to easily store, manage, search, and analyze 5D biological images and their analysis results. imago integrates flexible annotation and metadata management with advanced image analysis tools. Mayachitra imago can be used by anyone who collect and manage large image collections, especially

  • Any scientist who collects large amount of microscopic images and tries to keep a track of all images by organizing them according to date and experiment.
  • Any scientist who uses multiple microscopes and needs to open different images formats in one place.
  • Any scientist who want to quickly search an image with associated data.

What operating system does imago run on?

imago takes advantages of Windows .NET framework and Windows presentation foundation.

  • Windows XP (SP2 or later), Windows Vista, or Windows 7
  • .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 or newer
  • Recommended: 1GHz or faster
  • At least 2 GB of RAM
  • Minimum 1024 x 768 screen resolution
  • Minimum 200+ MB free hard drive space (on the Windows installation drive)

What is the difference between imago student version and imago professional?

imago 1 Student is a full version of imago Professional, priced at a huge discount for higher education students. The student version allows a student user to install one copy of the software on personal computer for personal. non-commercial use only.

How is imago different from other image analysis tools?

Mayachitra imago is an image management solution with integrated image analysis tools. Analyzed images, data and the history of analysis are automatically stored in imago database. You can search images with a specific analysis result. You can organize your image collections with analysis results efficiently.

Which file formats does Mayachitra imago support?

Mayachitra imago is independet from any imaging device. imago supports major microscope file formats including Bio-Rad PIC, Image-Pro Workspace, Metamorph TIFF, Leica LCS LEI, Olympus FluoView FV1000, Nikon NIS-Elements ND2, and Zeiss LSM. Does imago store images?

Yes. When you import images using imago, it copies your images from the folder and stores it in imagoAlbums. When you move or delete the images from your hard disks, imago keeps its own copies.

How does imago handle image analysis and effects?

When using effect or analysis tools in imago, your original files are never modified. All changes made in an image are recorded while preserving its original image throughout the process. The changes you make can only be viewed in imago until you export or save the image with its changes.

I have a new multi-core 64-bit computer, will imago take advantages of 64-bit computing?

Yes.imago utilize 64-bit computing. In particular, imago registration tool takes full advantages of multi-core technology.

Automatic registration (mosaicking)

How do I mosaic images collected by a motorized stage?

By simply selecting the log file from the local hard drive, imago will import images into album. imago will show you a a preview window of a low resolution version of the mosaicked image. If you like the preview, click Register images. Read more about how to create a mosaic using a motorized stage.

Automatic cell counting

Does imago's nuclei detector require a certain tissue type?

imago's nuclei detector does not require any specific tissue type. It detects any circular shaped cell/nucleus from an image.

Can I apply imago's nuclei detector to the same image multiple times?

Yes. You can apply the nuclei detector to the same image multiple times. imago will keep a track of the history of results.

How is a detection result stored?

The detection result including total counts, density (/unit2), the parameters used are stored in imago database. imago will show you the summary of cell counting in image analysis history. When you click Analysis of details in the right side of the history, total count, area, density, the parameters, and the XY coordinate of each detected cell will be displayed. You can also export a result in CSV (comma-seperate values) format as well as result images in desired format.
